So you made it to my Bio page – Now I can brag about what a great human being I am for the next 5 minutes 🙂
I won’t bore you with the usual “I’m so passionate about health and fitness and helping people change their lives“ and so on and so forth.
I’ve created The Coaching Lab – it took fuc*ing ages, I did it in my spare time and it didn’t make me any money for months and months after I launched it….
That’s evidence enough that I’m serious about this stuff.
So what do you really want to know?
My name is Ollie – Hi!!! I grew up in Bristol (UK), studied at the University of Bournemouth (Business Studies) and now reside in London where I’ve been for the last 7 years.
I started my post uni career working in the Hospitality industry as a concierge in a luxury hotel and taught my own Mixed Martial Arts classes in a local Fitness First gym (Brixton) in my spare time.
After 2 years in the hotel industry I decided to obtain my Personal training qualification as I knew I wanted to transition into the health and fitness industry on a full time basis. Tail coats and highly polished shoes just wasn’t going to cut it for in the long run although I credit my time in the hotel as a huge learning experience into “real life”
I made my full time foray into the world of health and fitness working along side an inspirational entrepreneur who had just set up an online training business offering fitness classes via video conferencing software. What started out as a part time role leading online HIIT sessions quickly turned into a full time role within the business helping to develop social media channels, establish the brand and manage our other online coaches.
Along side this project I also grew a small client base of my own, coaching kick boxing inspired fitness classes. I am extremely proud to say I still coach a lot of these clients to this very day. I like to think it speaks volumes regarding my ability to forge close relationships with my clients.
My competitive nature has always pushed me to be the best at what I do and this is no different as a personal trainer. I have been continually developing my skill set and knowledge base since qualifying around 5 years ago.
Coming from a science orientated family I have always held a level of critical thinking and it’s this nature that had me constantly questioning a lot of the health and fitness related articles and social media posts I was seeing being published on a daily basis. I quickly realised that the industry, particularly the nutrition part, is unbelievably saturated with fads, gimmicks and myths. Over the last couple of years I have a established a very strong network of other evidence based practitioners who rely on science. One such practitioner in particular is Martin MacDonald, the owner and director of Mac Nutrition Uni (MNU). This is a strictly evidence based nutrition course that has quickly become the GOLD standard of nutritional qualifications. I am a proud student of MNU and a lot of my application skills and raw evidence based nutritional knowledge comes from studying under Martin and his team. I also want to credit Aadam Ali from Physiqonomics who is by far the best long form content creator of evidence based nutrition I have ever come across. His illustrations aren’t bad either 😉
Around a year ago (early 2018) I decided it was time to build my own online platform. I partnered with a former client, who has become a good friend. Adam is an IT professional by trade running his own small IT consultancy. He handles all the IT related facets of ollielaverfitness.com and has been a crucial part of the business. From building the website to constantly updating and improving it as we grow.
The first iteration of ollielaverfitness.com was a subscription based website which housed “The Coaching Lab” and was rolled out and marketed as a general population service. The clients we had signing up were extremely interactive which I loved. The original idea was to provide general support to lots of clients whilst they made use of all the resources in the Coaching Lab. As time went on I found myself becoming far more involved with the Coaching Lab clients, having daily interactions and offering more bespoke coaching than initially intended. At £10 per month it just wasn’t financially viable to be spending upwards of 4 hours a day delivering such a bespoke service.
As a result of this experience we decided to re-brand the website and the roll out the second iteration of ollielaverfitness.com.
Today’s service offers a bespoke journey to a limited number of clients but at a slightly higher (but still affordable) price point. I much prefer to get to know my clients on a far more personal level and have a more hands on role in their journey with me.
So why choose to work with me?
I’m sure you’re aware that there are loads of exceptional evidence based coaches out there….and if you’re not aware….I’m telling you there are. I’ve learnt my entire craft from other more experienced practitioners and educators and turned that into my own business.
The small pocket of evidence based practitioners who do exist (and I consider myself within this pocket) aren’t always easy to find simply because the industry is SO SO SO SO SO SO SO unbelievably saturated with quick fix dietary solutions. There must be over a million different “12 week diet” plans that exist in the industry that be bought for next to nothing. It’s a total minefield out there… and trying to decipher who’s actually providing a legitimate service is hard! I know because I’ve been there!!!
The previously mentioned evidence based nutrition course I study under (Mac Nutrition Uni) uses 3 great mantra’s to describe all their certified practitioners…
WISDOM, CONFIDENCE, INTEGRITY
It’s the latter that really resonates with me and I fully embrace integrity as part of my methodology.
Choosing to work with me will require effort on your part. I am really only interested in working with clients who are prepared to put the effort in.
Your effort has to match my passion to teach you!
If you’ve read down this far then hopefully you’re ready to sign up to for the 1 weeks free coaching 🙂
